You must have a basic understanding
of Paint Shop Pro. I am using PSPX

There are no outside plugins used in this tut!
Note: I only used one drop shadow, inner bevel, and mask setting.
If you need to do it again, it should still be there :)

We are going to create the layout above. This tut will be easy
as I don't do much that is difficult!:) I found the tube in my
collection of tubes on my hard drive named simply F-OCT2007-10.pspimage
so I have no idea who tubed it or who created the original artwork. IF you
know, please send me a contact addy so I may give her credit here!
Thanks!

You will need a scrap paper, a large scrap
flower, words brush, ribbon and masks

The masks, may be downloaded

Here

Actually I created my own scrap paper
by floodfiling a new image slightly
larger than the tube, with a complimentary
color and using a grunge brush of a lighter
color to give it interest

Grunge Brushes may be found
Here

The ribbon and flower I used are from the free
scrap kit "Rustic" by Marianne Wahlberg

You can download the full kit "Rustic"
Here

Some beautiful tubes may be found here
Suzi Sgai
You will find partial nudity
and nudity on the site

Large text brushes may be found
Here

Free scrap ribbons and flowers
are abundant on the net! Once you
have all your supplies you are ready!

Ok let's start

Place your "jbr" brush in a folder on your desktop
Instructions on importing brushes
Importing Brushes

Place your masks in your mask folder :) Open
your tube, scrap paper, flower and ribbon
in Paint Shop Pro. Make copies of each and
delete the originals.
Make sure your layer palette is visible
  • View/palettes/layers

  • Click on your tube
  • Choose 2 colors from the tube using
your eye dropper to make a gradient.

  • eye dropper

One light color as the foreground color, and one
medium color as background color. I chose #b6a688
for the light color and #504623 for the darker
color and chose the below settings for the gradient.

    Gradient

To create the gradient, simply choose the styles
selector under the material palette to gradient,
When you do this, three choices will become available,
click the selector in the middle, and your two color
    choices will create the gradient.

    The choices are:
  • Top-color
  • Middle-gradient
  • Bottom-pattern

  • Creating Gradient

  • Layers/new raster layer
  • Layers/arrange/send to bottom
  • floodfill bottom layer with Gradient
  • Move up to the top layer

  • Adding the drop shadow to your tube!

  • Effects/3D effects/drop shadow
    Using the settings below

  • Vertical 8
  • Horizontal 8
  • Opacity 56
  • Blur 23
  • Color-Black

  • drop shadow

Your tube with gradient background and drop shadow
should look similar to this! My size
    at this point is 351px X 500px
    (Size does not matter)
    Since I use percentages to
    resize!

    tube with gradient

  • Layers, merge, merge all (flatten!)

  • Set Aside

  • ~ Creating Background layer ~
  • New Image, add 100px to Height and width of your
tube mentally to get the new image size.

  • Mine will be 451px X 600px! Don't worry we can
resize the finished layout. Flood fill with darker
    color. Mine is #221b08!

    ~ Adding Mask ~
  • Layers, Load/save mask/load mask from disk
and look for the awu_edge.msk you
saved to your mask folder! with settings below

    Background mask

  • Source luminance checked
  • Fit to canvas checked
  • Invert transparency unchecked
  • Hide all mask checked
  • Layers/merge/merge group!
  • Layers/new raster layer
  • Layers/Arrange/Move Down

  • Now you have 2 layers, and are on the bottom layer!
  • Flood fill with your lightest color, Mine is #b6a688! Click on
the top layer and use the drop shadow settings I used before.
  • Layers/new raster layer
  • ~ Applying the brush ~

  • Click on paintbrush

  • Paintbrush Location

    Choosing Brush
  • Browse to Folder you imported your brush to
  • Click Brush

  • Apply the brush twice, high on the
top left and on the bottom right
  • Effects/3D Effects/drop shadow using previous settings
  • Layers/merge/merge (all flatten)
  • Set Aside

  • brushes applied

    ~ Creating Flowered Backgrounds ~
  • Bring up the paper scrap you are going to use, and resize
it to about the size of the layout you have so far,
    height and width!
  • Click on your flower, Edit/copy
  • Click on paper, Edit/paste
  • Move flower up to the top left part of the paper,
  • Layers/duplicate flower
  • Move duplicated flower to the bottom right.
  • Layers/Merge (flatten!)

  • ~ Inner Bevel ~
Inner Bevel Using the settings from below

    Inner Bevel

  • Bevel 2
  • Width 24
  • Smoothness 23
  • depth 2
  • Ambience 1
  • Shininess 1
  • Angle 315
  • Intensity 50
  • Elevation 30

  • This is the look I am going for

    Flowers Background

    ~ Resizing ~
  • Resize by 80% or 90%
Just depends on what looks good
    for your layout

  • Resize by Percentages

  • Resize using the settings above
  • Width 90 Percent
  • Height 90 Percent
  • Resample using Bicubic
  • Lock aspect Ratio (don't change the numbers)
  • Resize all layers

  • You want the words to be seen around the edges
  • Edit/Copy and Edit/paste to layer
  • Layer/Duplicate
  • Then resize the duplicate to 90%
  • ~ Adding Drop Shadow ~
  • Effects\3D Effects\Drop Shadow using the previous settings

  • Adding flower backgrounds

  • Do NOT Merge
  • Set Aside

  • ~ Adding Mask ~
  • Bring up tube with gradient background

  • Layers/load/save mask/load mask to disk
  • Look for jd-mask112 that you saved to your mask folder

  • Load mask using the previous settings.

  • Adding Last Mask

  • Layers/merge group
  • Selections/Select All
  • Selections/Modify/Select Selectiona
    borders with the below settings
  • Both sides
  • Anti-alias with dot
  • Border width 2

  • Selecting Borders

  • Keep Selected
  • Floodfill with lightest color! Mine is #b6a688
  • Effects/3D Effects/Inner Bevel using the previous settings

  • Copy and paste to the double flower backgrounds

  • Merging

  • Close off your bottom layer so it looks like this

  • Click on one of the upper raster layers
  • Layers/merge visible
  • Make bottom layer visible now

    Before Ribbon

Layer palette should now look like this!

    Layer Palette

You now have two merged layers

Getting ready to add the ribbon
If you are using the ribbon from "Rustic Scrap kit"
You will have to lighten it and colorize
    it to match

Make sure you are on the top layer
  • Edit, Copy/paste ribbon as new layer
  • Move down with mover tool until you have
it positioned similar to the sample at top of page

You don't want it too high up to block her face
or too low to cut the ribbon off when you go to the next step

    Paste Ribbon

  • Effects/3D Effects/drop shadow Using the
    previous settings

  • Make sure you are on the second layer
  • Selections/select all
  • Selections float
  • Selections/defloat
  • Move up to top/ribbon layer
  • Selections Invert
  • Edit/Cut
  • Close off bottom layer
  • Go up to top layer
  • Layers/merge visible
  • Effects/3D Effects/Inner Bevel using
    the previous settings
  • And You are Done!!

  • At this point you may resize your finsihed layout
