How to Use A Mask

Page and finished masks created
out of "Pearl" which you can snag

here


I am using PSPX2 but think it will
work in other versions as well

Go to
  • View
  • Palettes

    Make sure you have
    a check mark next to
  • Materials
  • Layers
  • and Tools.

    View

    This is the way I have mine set up!

    Once you find the mask you would like to use.. put it
    in your mask folder, and point psp to the
    folder by going to
    • File
    • Preferences
    • File Locations

      File Locations

    • Create a new image, 600 X 600
      You can always resize later
    • Floodfill with a gradient, pattern, or color!
    • Layers, New raster layer
    • Floodfill with gradient, pattern, or color

      At this point, you have two layers



      Be sure you are on the top layer
    • Go to Layers
    • load/save mask
    • load mask from disk

      Browse through your masks and find
      one you like, making sure you have

    • Source Luminance
    • Fit to Canvas
    • and Hide all mask chosen.



      Once your mask has loaded, be sure you are on the top layer



      After applying the mask:

    • Close off the bottom layer,
    • Merge, merge group.
    • Open bottom layer.

      Making sure your top layer is
      highlighted in the layer pallate,

    • Go to effects
    • 3D effects,
    • Drop Shadow

      and use these setting:



      This is what your mask looks like
      now. You should have two layers!

      Finished Mask

      Go to
    • Layers
    • Merge visible





      Before it is merged, you can always create a tag
      or a layout, I hope you enjoyed the tut, and found
      it easy to do. This tut is just to get you started,
      there are endless possiblities.
