A Sweetz Tut

Autumn Template

Note:

I am just learning how to create templates so I am learning with you! :), but know my way around Paint shop Pro fairly well since I have been playing with it for almost 10 years! Even though I am finding out new things almost daily! This template is a bit complicated since there are variances of shades especially in the large center leaf, so using the magic wand would be difficult at best but there are other ways to do this.

Supplies

You will need Paint Shop Pro (I am using Paint Shop Pro X2 but other versions will work as well) and Adjust Variations which is an amazing filter and easy to use!
You also must know your way around Paint shop Pro!

Please save your work often!

Adjust Variation may be downloaded
Here

Step 1

First go to View, and make sure you have a check mark next
to View/Palettes/Layers so you can see what layer you are on!

Layer Palette

Step 2

We will start with the bottom background layer where you see the blue arrow!
Delete the layer and choose a color you like, and floodfill that layer with the new color; I used color #412803. It makes more sense to find your images first, and pull the colors from them! Here is what it looks like so far:

Colored Background

second layer from bottom

Step 3

Now make sure you are on the second layer from the bottom, where the wavy blue arrow is pointing, then click the bottom part of the double-colored bar that goes across the width of the template! Using your magic wand, select the bottom part and flood fill with your color of choice. I used #281902), then Select None!
Below is what it looks like now:

Third layer from bottom

Step 4

Remember you are on the same layer! You are just going to select the top part of that two-toned border. Flood fill with your color,(I used color #a3845d,) now Select None!

It should look like the one below now!

Step 5

Now we are going to change the color of the long swirly
leaf that goes from the left of the template
to the end of the right side.
Be sure you are on the long leaf layer before you try
and select it. It is the fourth layer from the
bottom entitled "long leaf!"

Selections, Select all, Selections, Float, Selections,
Defloat, Adjust, Hue and Saturation, colorize!

Make sure you use the H-Hue/S-Saturation from the material palette

Hue and Saturation

Here is where Adjust Variations comes into play. Sometimes when you use colorize, it doesn't give the exact shade or color you wish, so go to Filters, Plugin, Adjust variations, and click on darker or lighter!

Swirly Leaf

colorize long leaf

Adjust Variations

You can at this time adjust the shade or depth of color to suit you!

Shade or Depth of Color

Be sure you have your dot in Midtones.

Notice over on the right, there is lighter at the top and current
pick in the middle, then darker at the bottom; these are usually
what I click on, but notice you can make also
it greener, redder, bluer, etc.

As soon as the color suits you, click ok! Select None!

Your template should now look similar to the one below:

Leaf Colored

Step 6

Now we are going to tackle the big leaf with all the varied shades in it.

Using the magic wand just won't work on this leaf! You could increase the tolerance, but still you would have a hard time; so this way is much easier! Be sure you are on the right layer, which is the third from the bottom named "Leaves"

Big Leaf Layer

Go to Selections, Select All, Float, Defloat!

Go To Adjust, Hue and Saturation, Colorize! (I have chosen color #6f5b36 which has 28 for Hue and 88 for Saturation) For the center leaves, this just didn't make the leaves dark or rich enough, so I will now use Adjust Variations to make the leaf darker. Go to Filters, Plugins, Adjust Variations and click on darker >several times until you have the shade to your liking! Select None

This is what it looks like now:

Center leaves colorized

Step 7

Now we are going to colorize the words, so be sure you are on the right layer before you select them.

An Autumn Day Layer

Selections, Select All, Selections, Float, Selections, Defloat!
Go to Adjust, Hue And Saturation, Colorize, and choose your color (I chose color #c69136 which gave me Hue 26 and Saturation of 126), then I darkened it a bit by using Adjust Variations, which by now you are an expert at using. Select None!
Using the magic wand, select the center of the picture frames, floodfill with color of choice, do the same for the borders of each. Select None

Here is what mine looks like now:

Words Colorized

Step 8

Now you can use the magic wand to select the inside of the picture frames, each on their own layer, and floodfill with your color of choice, do the same for the borders, remembering to be on their own layers. Select None!

Here is what mine looks like now:
Frames Floodfilled

Step 9

Once you find the image you want to use, Start with the top frame, select the center again, then copy and paste the image to the frame!

Adding Photo

Open Image, right click Edit, Copy, click on working template! Right click, Edit, Paste as new layer!

It will be right above the frame layer! With your move tool move it over so it's right on top of the frame! In this case it's too big for the frame, so I will have to resize it!

Resizing Image

I am resizing my image by 60 percent! Make sure the dot is out of "Resize All Layers" If it looks ok now, you can use your move tool, moving it to right above the frame!

Adding Image

Note: don't worry about the bow, you can add your scraps later!
I had already merged the preview and didn't want to create it again!

Then Selections, Invert, Delete! This will get rid of the excsss
image around the outside of the frame. Select None!

Here is what it looks like now:

Invert Selections Delete

Step 10

Now I will add my image to the other two frames! The top one I will have to rotate the image to get it to look right! Make sure you are right on the top frame layer, which is 3 from the top@

Top Frame Layer

In this case I rotate the image by 14! Image, Free Rotate, free 14, no dots in the bottom 2! In this case I am not worrrying about resizing the image as I just want her eyes to be the focal point on the top frame!

Rotate Right

Just Eyes

Now Selections Invert, Delete! Selections, Select None!

This is what it looks like now:

Eyes Only

Step 10

For the last frame, Be sure you are on the bottom frame layer. Click on frame with your magic wand, then Image, Copy, click on template, Paste as new layer, then move to the frame so her mouth is centered, Selections, Invert, Delete, Select None, change the opacity to about 80 Or whatever you like best!

Well as you can see I changed something when I recreated this so I could use the previews. I changed the wordart since I didn't feel An Autumn Day was working and An Autumn Beauty did. You will find when working a template, you will do the same thing. Whatever works for you! I hope you like the finished template and found this tut to be easy to follow.. hugs Rainy
